Poliomyelitis is the commonest cause of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) in India and thus polio eradication is an urgent necessity. Available options are provision of safe drinking water, proper sanitation and high level of routine immunization.  Two drops of Polio are administered to children of age group 0 -5 years (including new-borns) every year on the occasion of National Polio Day and the same child is re-administered the Polio drops in the 2nd Round of the program as well.
