Yuksom MPCS bags NCDC Cooperative Excellence Award 2010


GANGTOK, 25 Feb [IPR]: The Yuksom Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd, a registered cooperative society under the Sikkim Cooperative Societies Act, 1978, was selected for the NCDC Cooperative Excellence Award 2010. The award, comprising of cash amount of Rs. 50,000, a memento and a certificate of recognition was presented to Purna Bdr. Pradhan, Manager, Yuksom MPCS Ltd, at a special function held on 04 February in New Delhi, a Press release received from Cooperation Department informs.

The National Cooperative Development Corporation felicitated 27 ‘best performing primary cooperatives’ from all parts of the country including Yuksom MPCS and the awards were given away by the Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Arun Subhaschandra Yadav.
The State Government had constituted a committee chaired by Secretary Cooperation Department, which had nominated three Multipurpose Cooperative Societies - Yuksom MPCS (West District), Polok Borong MPCS (South District) and Luing Perbing MPCS (East District) for the biennial award to be conferred to best working cooperative societies by the National Cooperative Development Corporation.
From these three MPCS, the Yuksom Multipurpose Cooperative Society was selected on the basis of higher growth rate in terms of turnover and profit  as compared to  others. The society, since inception in the year 2000, has constantly been engaged in consumer goods distribution in its areas of operation. Lately, during the year 2008-09, the society has also diversified its activities into credit business in the form of KCC loan disbursement. The loan recovery rate of the society as of 2009-10 has been 100%, which in itself is considered to be praiseworthy.
The society with 235 members, has also declared dividends and bonus out of its profits and distributed to its members and employees. Further, as part of its social and welfare commitment, the society participated in Green Mission programme to plant saplings and Health Programme of the State Government. It was also organized awareness programme for development of floriculture in the also organized with Farmers Club.
It may also be mentioned here that Yuksom MPCS has become the third cooperative society in the State to receive this award, the other being Central pendam MPCS (2006) and Mangan MPCS (2008).
