Kalimpong team lifts T-20 trophy at Melli


GANGTOK, 21Feb: The final match of 10th T-20 Champions Trophy was played in Melli on 19 Feb with WGYC of Kalimpong lifting the championship trophy defeating Melli Gumpa Cricket Club by 82 runs.

Melli Gumpa CC invited WGYC to bat first. WGYC gathered 133 runs in 14.3 overs. Melli Gumpa chasing the target ran out of wickets in 9.3 overs with just 59 runs on the boards. The winning and the runner up teams were awarded with trophies and cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 each by the chief guest, area MLA, Tulsi Devi Rai. The trophies of the teams were sponsored by Laddha Family in the memory of Pannalal, and a referee trophy was sponsored by SDF Bhawan Trust, informs a release.
The man of the match title was given to Arun Khawas of WGYC and the man of the series was bagged by Mausam Pradhan of Melli Gumpa Cricket Club. Both the players were awarded with Rs. 8,000 each by Gurukul Co-operative Society.
The best bowler and best batsman titles were awarded to Yuvray Lama of MCC and Prashant Mc Donald of WGYC while Tshewang  of MCC was declared the most promising player.
The chief Guest, MLA Tulsi Devi Rai appreciated the hosting of the tournament as a healthy activity to keep the youth engaged.
The final match was also attended by Melli Dara GPU, president, Ganesh Rai and Melli GREF, Major Chetan Kumar as the guests of honour and the panchayat, Passang Doma Bhutia.
The tournament had a total 38 teams participating from all over Sikkim including teams from Kalijhora and Kalimpong, the release informs.
Melli Cricket Club was formed in 1994 with the intention to encourage and inspire the youth and spreading the message of brotherhood, and has been organizing the tournament for the last 10 years, the release informs.
