Sikkim lobbying with MPs to build support for IT exemption for left out Sikkimese

The state government is lobbying with MPs of neighbouring states and Northeast to support the demand for exemption of direct tax to left-out communities and old settlers of Sikkim.

While addressing the closing ceremony of a three-day long North Bengal & Sikkim Yuva Marwari Manch program on 21 Sept in Gangtok, Sikkim’s Lok Sabha MP, P D Rai said that the government is putting in all efforts to provide justice to left-out communities and old settlers of the state in terms of tax exemption.
Stating that the demand of these left-out communities was genuine, Mr Rai hinted at ongoing talks with BJP and Northeast MPs in parliament to provide IT exemption to these sections of the Sikkimese population.
Expressing his concern over the high rate of depression and suicides in the state, Mr Rai appealed to the Marwari Yuva Manch, Sikkim Unit for cooperation in tackling social issues which the Manch assured to do.
The MP also provided Rs. 10 lakh to the Marwari Yuva Manch from the MP LADS fund and urged them to work in projects related to youth empowerment under the Directorate of Capacity Building.
