The Health Department convened a meeting on 21 September to discuss the outbreak of Dengue fever in Delhi and to formulate the plan of activities in the state for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The meeting was chaired by DG cum Secretary Health, Dr K Bhandari and was attended by Medical Superintendent, STNM Hospital, SPO, NVBDCP & SSO IDSP, an IPR press release informs.
The meeting decided to inform the Chief Medical Officers of all the four districts regarding the outbreak of the disease and advise them to remain alert and vigilant, and to screen all suspected fever cases for Dengue fever. It also decided to undertake intensive IEC activities on prevention of Dengue and other vector borne diseases, and to enhance Entomological Surveillance to identify the vector mosquito and to continue fever surveillance and undertake treatment accordingly.
The meeting was also informed that adequate diagnostic kits (ELISA based) are available at State/District surveillance hospital (STNM & Namchi Hospitals) and discussed that as per the WHO and NVBDCP Delhi guidelines use of RD kit for diagnosis of Dengue is not recommended. It also resolved to coordinate with concerned departments including RMDD, UDHD, District Administration, Police, Panchayats and Nagar Panchayats and local NGOs and to request them for help as and when required.
As of now, no dengue cases have been reported in the state but there have been some cases of Sikkimese working or studying in other states contracting the disease. Such patients could do with some help from the state government in terms of assistance regarding treatment and transport facilities, for example, through the Sikkim House at New Delhi. Advisories on travel via or to places with dengue outbreak could also be helpful.
