GANGTOK, 04 Aug: A youth was found dead in a pool of blood at his home this afternoon here at Sichey in the outskirts of Gangtok slightly ahead of the District Administrative Centre towards the Helipad. The murder of Mohan Subba, the youth who was found dead in the kitchen of his brother’s house today, has confounded and shocked all and has offered no leads on the culprits thus far.
The victim, aged around 22 to 23 years, had recently returned from Chandigarh after completing a civil engineering course, it is informed.
From what evidence the police has been able to piece together thus far, the murder took place between 2 to 3 PM. The victim was alone at home at the time. His sister-in-law, who works in the Sikkim Police, had left home at around 1 PM for duty, it is informed and the murder was detected shortly after 3.
The victim’s cousin is reported to have found him lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen and then raised an alarm informing the neighbours and then the police.
The kitchen was found all tossed up leading the police to believe that there was fight before the murder. The bruises and cut marks on the face, neck and hands of the victims further confirm this speculation. The nature of the wounds suggest that the victim was attacked with a knife.
The investigators have found no signs of forced entry into the house as the lock and key were found hanging on the grilled gate of the house. This, the police believes, suggests that the assailant was known to the victim.
After the murder came to light, the neighbours are [tenants of the house and other people] reported to have stated that they heard some commotion like a fight.
As things stand, there are no suspects in the murder but the people around have given some descriptions about people seen in the locality at around the time of the murder.
