Vanaraja pullets distributed in Dzongu

MANGAN, 27 Aug: The closing day for the distribution programme of month-old Vanaraja pullets/chicks for backyard poultry farming was held on 25 August by the AHLF & VS department, North district.  100 beneficiaries from Dzongu constituency's watershed areas were provided pullets under Production system & Micro-Enterprise component of Integrated Watershed Management programme-I, North district, funded by the  Department of Forest, Environment & Wildlife Management.
The programme was attended by Chairman Transport Division, Pintso Lepcha as the chief guest accompanied by the CF Forest, DC Nepal, Joint Director AHLF&VS North, SK Subba, departmental officials from Forest, officials from the AHLF&VS department and the beneficiaries.
Deputy Director, Dr. Karma Tenzing Bhutia informed that each beneficiary has been provided 30 Vanaraja pullets/chicks to promote sustainable source of livelihood in the identified Watershed areas. As informed by the officials of the AHLF & VS department, the day-old chicks were raised in the departmental farm in Chanday for about a month with brooding and vaccination facilities and were distributed to the beneficiaries in order to curtail the mortality percentage and achieve optimum survival of the poultry birds at the Farmer’s backyard.
Before handing over the chicks, the beneficiaries were imparted training on poultry farming by Deputy Director Mangan, Dr. Dichen Ongmu Kaleon on disease and medication whereas Dy Director, Dzongu, Dr. CP Rai imparted knowledge on Bio-security measures and hygiene.
Joint Director, Dr SK Subba informed about the departmental scheme that seeks to provide means for sustainable income of the people of the state.
CF Forest, DC Nepal said that the Forest Department is conducting several projects like beautician training, broom making, etc for the people under the IWMP which has to be passed by the Gram Sabha first.
The chief guest in his speech urged all the beneficiaries to utilize the technical knowledge and guidance provided by the department and further added that the beneficiaries should make it a source of income for the scheme to be successful.
Also present in the function were DFO Forest, NT Bhutia, ACF, Samdup Bhutia and other officials.
