GANGTOK, 11 Aug: A 46-year-old man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his field at Malbasey, Soreng, West Sikkim on Sunday morning. The dead body of the deceased was forwarded to District Hospital Namchi for autopsy.
In another case, a 52-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself inside the kitchen of his residence at Chisopani, Soreng, West Sikkim on Sunday evening. The body was discovered by his daughter in law who informed the police.
A crisis intervention centre intended for suicide prevention throughout the state of Sikkim has been set up at Police Control Room, Gangtok for handling distress calls. A dedicated phone number 221152 is installed where all calls will be attended by gazetted officers of the Police department. The Helpline is available 24x7 and supports people who call for themselves or someone they care about.
