GANGTOK, 17 Aug: A two-day celebration of the country's Independence Day got underway at the National Institute of Technology-Sikkim on 14 August with a Saraswati Vandana followed by a series of dance performances presented by schools from across the districts.
As per an NIT-Sikkim press release, the participating schools were DAV Rangitnagar, JNVs from Ravangla and North Sikkim, 2-Vikas Army Band, Senior Secondary School Lingee and Yangyang, etc. The Principals from JNV Ravangla, DAV Rangitnagar and Central School for Tibetans, Ravangla were also present.
CST Ravangla and JNV North Sikkim were declared the winners while consolation prizes and certificates were given to all the participating students. The day’s programme concluded with performance of Traditional Indian Rasa–Rasa Miyan-ka-Malhar and a medley of the tunes composed by Rabindranath Tagore by renowned Sarod player Debanjan Bhattacharjee who interacted with the audience and discussed interesting facts about Indian classical ragas as well.
On 15 August, Director of NIT Sikkim, Prof. AB Samaddar hoisted the national flag while a football match marked the end of the two-day celebration, the release mentions.
