GANGTOK, 10 Aug: Sikkim has been receiving the highest number of foreign tourists among the North-Eastern states in the country. While sharing the latest figures of the Tourism Ministry, a Sikkim Democratic Front press release mentions that the figures suggest that Sikkim has been the favorite tourism destination among north-eastern states for foreign tourists.
An SDF press release issued by its publicity secretary, Krishna Lepcha states that after a long survey the Tourism Ministry has issued this data. The figure shows that the number of foreign tourists visiting the state has been increasing every year.
According to the data, Sikkim has received 23602 tourists in 2011, 26489 in 2012 and 31698 in 2013. Sikkim is followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, respectively.
The release further adds that Tourism development has been the priority of the SDF government and the state government has been working for tourism development for a long time now creating world class tourism infrastructures in the state.
The SDF party has expressed that the state has already been recognized as the best place to visit in the world famous travel guidebook ‘Lonely Planet’ and that such praise and recognition is a source of inspiration to all.
