CHAMLING CELEBRATES BHASA MANYATA DIWAS IN GYALSHING

Will lobby for inclusion of Nepali in UPSC and other national level competitive exams, CM announces
GYALSHING, 20 Aug [IPR]: The 23rd Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas organized by the Nepali Bhasa Manyata Organizing Committee (West) was observed in Geyzing community hall today. Chief Minister Pawan Chamling attended the program as the chief guest while literary figure Man Bahadur Pradhan from Kalimpong and retired Additional Director BB Muringla from Lingchom, West Sikkim, were present as guests of honor alongside Cabinet Ministers, Chairpersons, MLAs, Adhakshya, Upadhakshya, Government officials, Panchayats, students and public of the adjoining areas.
The Chief Minister, while addressing the function, announced that he would place an appeal before the Central Government to include Nepali language as part of the optional languages in the UPSC and other central level competitive examinations.
In addition, he also made the announcement to appoint Graduate Teacher and Post Graduate Teacher for Nepali subject from next academic session onwards in Sikkim.
Addressing the literary assets of the state and lauding their achievements, Mr. Chamling congratulated the literary scholars and asked the students and youth to draw inspiration from their work.
Furthermore, highlighting the significance of the occasion when Nepali as a language was included in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution on 20 August 1992, the Chief Minister underlined the need to preserve and put to practice Nepali language as it is eroding with time.
He discussed how westernized thoughts and opinions have become a part of the society and how steadily, as a result of such globalization, people, particularly the younger generation, have started disregarding the heritage, customs and traditions of Nepali language. He also detailed the relentless efforts and contributions of Dil Kumar Bhandari and Anand Mani Singh in the field of protection, preservation and advancement of Nepali language and called upon the people to shoulder a collective social responsibility to preserve their language.
He also urged the youth to abandon misconceptions of holding Nepali as a mediocre or substandard language and instead value its learning as it has a rich history and origin and therefore work towards giving Nepali language its integration and due recognition.
Mr. Chamling also assured full support in fulfilling the demands placed by the people and pledged to works towards the development of Geyzing and the adjoining areas.
The program also saw release of books by Kusum Lata, Kedar Gurung and Phurba Khandu Sherpa.
Similarly, felicitations were conferred upon Man Bahadur Pradhan who is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award; eminent writer, poet and musician BB Muringla who is a recipient of Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture Samman and Bhawani Gautam.
Essay recitations by Dilliram Sharma from Benaras Hundu University, Shree Bhuwan Dhakal from Girls Senior Secondary School Geyzing, Narayan Sharma from Geyzing Government College and Tek Bahadur Sanyasi, a student from Pelling Senior Secondary School were also presented. Song and dance presentations by students formed the cultural highlights of the day.
