GANGTOK, 07 Aug: Sikkim Democratic Front has stated that people's representatives should not take false and anti-people issues to the central government and condemned news reports on the issue published in some local dailies as well.
In a press release, SDF spokesperson, KT Gyaltsen has said that news reports suggesting that the Buddhist way of life was somehow imperiled in Sikkim were fabricated and false. He has alleged that taking such false issues up with the central government would lead the people and the society towards darkness and would also tarnish the good image of the state.
It may be mentioned that the Sangha MLA of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, Sonam Lama is currently in New Delhi and has been submitting representations to Union Ministers alleging that “our very dharma” is under a “systemized attack and cultural genocide under present dispensation in Sikkim”.
Mr Gyaltsen has further alleged that such anti-social elements would destroy the peace and development maintained by the SDF government in these 20 years. Given Sikkim’s strategic geographical location with three international borders, any communal issue may break the harmony in the society, he adds and warns the people against those trying to sow the seeds of unrest.
The SDF spokesperson further states that the farsighted leadership of the SDF party and its leader Pawan Chamling has been successful in establishing religious harmony in the state. Under the party, the religion, practice, culture of different communities and groups of Sikkim have been protected and have progressed.
SDF has said that for the development and preservation of Buddhist religion and culture, the SDF government has opened monastic schools in villages and helps maintain more than 350 monasteries, 'mani lakhangs' and 'chamkhangs'. The party further states that the world's tallest statue of Guru Rinpoche was constructed at Samdruptse in Namchi, Lord Buddha's statue at Tathagata Tsal in Rabong and the statue of Cherenzig [Singkham] is under construction in West Sikkim, all proving that the Sangha MLA’s allegations are exaggerated and unsubstantiated.
