Sambhu Rai to regale Sikkim on Bhanu Jayanti

GANGTOK, 11 July: Renowned Nepali singer, Sambhu Rai's performance is set to be the highlight of the Bhanu Jayanti Celebrations 2014 at Mannan Kendra on the evening of 13 July. The stage will also be shared by two other popular singers from Nepal, Divya Bhandari and Dev Narayan Pradhan.
Sambhu Rai is popular as a folk singer among the Nepali community across the world. Songs like ‘Chitthi Timilai Lekhu Bhanchhu’, ‘Chalechha Batas Sustari’ and many others recorded a long time ago are still popular. Apart from his performances across the globe, Mr Rai has also performed in the state earlier.
Addressing a press conference this afternoon, Mr Rai thanked the celebration committee of this year's Bhanu Jayanti for inviting him to perform in the state. He said that the people of Sikkim have a big hand behind his popularity. He also spoke about the overwhelming response from the people of Sikkim when he first performed in the state.
Mr Rai shared that he started singing early on during his childhood and started singing for the radio channels in Nepal more than 30 years. He has already recorded more than 1000 songs and has also sung playback in many Nepali movies.
He also appreciated the efforts of the state in preserving the Nepali language and literature and for celebrating the Bhanu Jayanti in a grand manner to pay tribute to the contributions and efforts of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta.
Another popular singer, Divya Bhandari expressed her happiness at being able to perform in the state. She also thanked the people of Sikkim for their support and encouragement.
The press conference was also addressed by Mr Rai’s wife, Pramoda Rai.
