GYALSHING, 02 June: Bijay Khatiwada, a 17 year old boy class
IX in Sakyong Secondary School, West Sikkim, drowned in the Rathang Chu Lodung
khola yesterday. The incident occurred at around noon when the teenager went
for a swim to the river along with his friends. The strong current of the river
dragged him away even as attempts by his friends to save him failed. His body
was recovered only this morning around 5 kms downstream from where he was swept
away. The boy was the only son of Santa Bahadur Khatiwada, a resident of Lower
Omlok.
