Gangtok, 18 June [IPR]: Minister for Science & Technology and Climate Change, Tshering Wangdi Lepcha, convened a coordination meeting with the department’s staff at the Vigyan Bhawan conference hall today. The meeting was attended by the Secretary PT Euthenpa, Special Secretary Sarala Rai, Additional Directors of Sikkim State Council of Science and Technology and others officers and staff of the department.
At the outset, the Special Secretary outlined the administrative procedures of the department focusing on systematized administration, transparency and dedication. The Additional Directors put forth their achievements and future prospective of the Sikkim State Council of Science and Technology.
It was informed that the Council has worked on the plan diversity mapping of North Sikkim and mapping of bamboo canes all over the state.
Besides this, they also have done documentation on techno-vet medicine or plants that are used for medicinal value. The department has also taken initiative on organic mission and has completed mapping of snow, wet land, glaciers and is being constantly monitored by the scientist. 36 species of rhododendron have also been audio and video recorded as well. The department has been providing training programmes on orchid and mushroom cultivation to local farmers.
The Minister, in his brief address, focused on new innovative ideas that would make the department more exciting with new creativity and vigour. He focused on reaching out to the grass root level people and making all the programmes and policies accessible and beneficial to them.
He also stressed on result-oriented work and felt the need to have programmes on all the constituencies of the state. The Minister requested the officials and staffs to maintain accountability, transparency, honesty, dedication in their duty and work together as a team to achieve the missions set forth by the government. To inculcate the habit of scientific temperament in the students, the Panchayats and Teachers should also be trained and made aware of science and its nature, he added.
The Secretary in his address highlighted the departmental work ethics and requested his officials and staffs to maintain office decorum, punctuality and stressed on the speedy process of the files.
An interactive session was also held wherein the department plans, policies, rules and regulations and practical problems faced by the officials and staffs were discussed and deliberated.
Earlier, the meeting began with a welcome address presented by Additional Director-cum-DDO, Dr. B.C. Basistha and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by DG Shrestha.
