Bikers from Maharashtra call on Governor

GANGTOK, 09 June: A team of nine bikers from Karad in Maharashtra called on Governor Shriniwas Patil at Raj Bhawan today. The Governor, it may be recalled, also hails from Maharashtra.
A press release informs that the team had started their journey by road from Karad and travelled through Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya to Sikkim covering more than 13,000 kilometres. The team intends to cover Bhutan on their return journey to Maharashtra.
It may be mentioned that one of the team members, Deepak Digambar Bewalkar is a cyclist who has achieved the feat of cycling from Kanyakumari to Leh, known to be one of the World’s Highest Motorable Roads at the altitude of 18,380 feet, covering a total of 5000 kilometres in 23 days.
Interacting with the team, the Governor lauded their physical endurance and courage to accomplish such a feat. He mentioned that such effort will inspire the youths in the society and help keep them away from vices such as alcoholism and drug abuse, the release states.
Extending his best wishes for all their future endeavours, the Governor awarded them a Certificate of Appreciation for their exemplary feat, it is informed.
