GANGTOK, 27 May: A recently formed organization, Sikkim Suraksha Nagrik Manch, convened a meeting here at Tadong today to discuss recent developments in Sikkim. Introducing itself as an organization of “aware and educated” youth of Sikkim, an SSNM press release informs that the meeting has welcomed the recent Cabinet decision on local protection issues.
The release, issued jointly by the president, Rajiv Rai and publicity secretary, Mahendra Gurung states that the meeting welcomed the decision of the government to make Sikkim Subject Certificates/ CoI mandatory in issuing trade and other licenses, enlistment for contractors and permit for taxi and other vehicles.
The release adds that the meeting agreed that Sikkim has ample opportunities but that lack of work culture among local youth was leading to the squandering of these opportunities. The release adds that the State’s youth should welcome the decision of the government not to allow subletting of any work.
While discussing unemployment, the meeting resolved to start an awareness campaign to inculcate a better work culture among the youth. The release informed that the meeting has also decided to help garner people’s support for the recent decisions of the government. The organization has also thanked the SNPP and MBSS for welcoming the decisions and appeals other social and political organizations to take the right decision on the issue.
