GANGTOK, 11 May: Sikkim Democratic Front’s Cheli Morcha has demanded stringent punishment for Nitiraj Subba who is accused of sexually assaulting a minor in Lower Burtuk. The Cheli Morcha has stated that not only Sikkim but the entire human community should boycott such people for attacking the respect, dignity and rights of women.
An SDF press release issued by Cheli Morcha’s general secretary, Manita Mangar, vice convener [East], Karma Doma Sherpa and a member, Divya Khatiwada demands stringent punishment for the accused as a deterrent for such crimes against women.
The release states that prompt action by the law enforcement agency led to the immediate arrest of the accused. “On behalf of all Sikkimese Chelis and the society at large, the SDF Cheli Morcha demands strong action by the concerned authority,” the release adds.
The women’s wing of the party has taken serious note of such a crime in a peaceful state like Sikkim and has appealed to the law enforcement agency to be vigilant to avoid such crimes in the future.
