For Chaite Dasain, Raj Bhawan treated to Vedic hymns by Panchanageshwar Shiva Mandir Pathasala students

GANGTOK, 08 Apr: A special function to mark the Ramnavami festival popularly called ‘Chaite Dasain’ in Sikkim was held at Raj Bhavan today.
Governor Shriniwas Patil, First Lady Rajanidevi Patil, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan attended the function. A press release informs that on the occasion, a group of twelve children accompanied by three Sanskrit teachers of Panchanageshwar Shiva Mandir-cum-Pathshala, Chandmari, Gangtok, chanted Vedic hymns and ‘Bhajans’.
The children have been trained by Draupadi Ghimirey of Sikkim Vikalang Sahayata Samiti and Dr. Sabitri Hamal, the caretaker of the Pathshala, it is informed.
The Governor was pleased to acknowledge the performance of children and lauded the effort put in by Ms. Ghimirey and others in inculcating a sense of respect and reverence in children towards spiritual and cultural heritage of our country. He added that such effort goes a long way “in preserving our rich culture, tradition and our distinct identity which reflects our glorious past simultaneously contributing to the character building of the young minds”.
Interacting with the children, the Governor urged them to imbibe the virtues of Sri Rama such as obedience, self restrain and compassion to attain success in life, the release adds.
