Following defection, NMC Chairman removed

NAMCHI, 31 Mar: The Chairman of Namchi Municipal Council, BT Tamang, has been removed from his post following his defection to the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha recently. He had been elected as a Councilor from Upper Boomtar Ward No. 5 on an SDF ticket.
Urban Development & Housing Department, Gangtok had issued a notification under section 24(3) of the Sikkim Municipal Act, 2007, following the resolution passed by the councilors of NMC in a meeting held at NMC chaired by NMC Vice Chairman, NH Ansari on 26 March to remove Mr. Tamang from his post.
After much deliberation amongst the members present, the meeting unanimously decided to remove Mr. Tamang from the office of the Chief Councilor of the Namchi Municipal Council as his action had violated provisions of the Sikkim Municipalities Act, 2007 read with the Sikkim Municipalities (amendment) Act, 2013.
Speaking to media persons today, the NMC Vice Chairman also condemned the statement made by Mr. Tamang alleging that NMC has no authority and has not done any work since its establishment. Here he said that NMC is doing various works towards poverty alleviation, moreover the various construction works sanctioned under NMC are being carried out by different cooperative societies of Namchi.

“We are doing our works and trying to do the best for the public of Namchi. The statement of BT Tamang is his personal point of view and is an attempt to defame NMC for political interests,” said Mr. Ansari.
