Week-long adventure course concludes for students at IHCAE Chemchey

 NAMCHI, 27 Dec: A week-long adventure course for the students of government schools concluded today here at Indian Himalayan Center for Adventure and Eco Tourism (IHCAE), Chemchey, South Sikkim.
This adventure training course started from 21 December where a total of 29 students from different schools of South and East district participated. During this winter camp the students were introduced to rock climbing, trekking, cross country, etc and also given training on disaster preparedness.
The Director IHCAE, ST Bhutia was present during the valedictory function of the 20th winter adventure camp programme along with OSD Kazi Sherpa, Instructors Anand Gurung and Shanti Rai. Addressing the function the Director said that through such adventure camps, the youth can be motivated to follow the right path and also maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“There is huge scope and fun in adventure sports and the state government has developed the best infrastructure where the youth can hone their skills”, he said. He added that this institution has the best trainers like Kazi Sherpa, Anand Gurung and Shanti Rai who are experienced in this field. IHCAE will also add new adventure courses soon, it is informed.
OSD Kazi Sherpa informing about the training programme said that with such sports and games students can develop good health and concentration that can help with their studies. Such camps will also encourage youth towards taking up adventure sports and stay away from drugs and alcohol, he added.
Diwas Roka of Temi Sr. Sec School was adjudged the Best Trainee among boys while Nimjay Ongmu Lepcha of Bhrihaspati Parsai Sr. Sec. School Ranipool was adjudged the Best Trainee among girls during the camp. Similarly, Sandhya Raiof Temi Tea Garden Jr.High School stood first among cross country girls trainees and Lakpa Dorjee Sherpa of Temi Sr. Sec School stood first in cross country boys trainees. In, obstacle competition Dewas Roka of Temi Sr. Sec School again stood first among the boys trainees and Nim Diki Sherpa of Temi Sr. Sec School stood first among the girls trainees.
All the trainees were provided with certificates and trophies by the institution.
