Trout rearing farm inaugurated in Rabom

MANGAN, 26 Nov: Animal Husbandry Minister, Dawcho Lepcha, inaugurated a trout-rearing farm at Rabom in Lachen, North Sikkim, on Monday accompanied by area MLA Lachen Mangan, TW Lepcha, Secretary AH, LF&VS, DP Sharma, DC North CP Dhakal and other officials. The Minister also inaugurated a shed at the Angora Rabbit Rearing centre and a 10-unit Tibetan Mastiff Conservation cum Breeding Centre.
Constructed at the cost of Rs. 93,47,346, the trout rearing farm has a two-storied RCC framed structure comprising of the trout hatcher unit cum RO’s office with quarter, welcome gate and approach road while the Angora Rabbit Rearing Shed has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 25 lakh holds a total capacity of 350 rabbits.  The Tibetan Mastiff Conservation cum Breeding Centre has been constructed at the cost of Rs 25 lakh.
The Deputy Director [Mangan], KT Bhutia, explained that the Tibetan Mastiff Breeding Centre while the Deputy Director Chungthang explained about the Angora rabbit rearing shed.
A short function was held where the Secretary AH, LF&VS, DP Sharma, underlined the benefits of animal husbandry through which people can earn a lot without putting in much effort.
The area MLA Lachen-Mangan appealed to all the people of the area to take up trout farming as it is not suitable for low lying areas. He further urged the department to provide the scheme only to farmers who are genuinely interested.
The chief guest, in his address, urged people to take advantage of benefits provided by the government. The function concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by SK Subba, Joint Director North.
Earlier, the Minister also laid the foundation stone of the biodiversity park at Naga in North Sikkim, which is located next to the multipurpose cultural house and Bongthing school. The park is estimated to cost Rs. 1.5 crore and in the first phase Rs. 50 lakh has been released by the department of AVLF&VS, including land compensation of the project site which is executed by NDZP.
The Minister and Secretary, AHLF&VS also visited the new Bongthing house and museum and the Mangan dairy plant (chilling plant).
The Sikkim Lepcha Association North district branch has urged the Minister to request the Chief Minister to officially inaugurate the Bongthing House during the upcoming Janta Mela.
