GANGTOK, 10 Nov: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, in a memorandum marked to the President of India has listed out a series of allegations against the State Government and requested that the President ensure that all political parties get a level playing field in Sikkim, CBI is allowed “unrestricted” access to investigate corruption cases in the State, communal harmony be maintained at all costs and Old Laws of Sikkim protected.
The memorandum signed by the SKM working president Bharati Sharma, while alleging that the State Government leverages the bureaucracy and the police to hamstring Opposition parties, states, “The Govt. of India has an onerous responsibility to ensure that democracy really flourish and take its firm root in the State.”
She further contends that the Central Bureau of Investigation needs to “receive unrestricted entry into the State and investigate all serious cases of corruption” to “root out corruption from the face of the State”. Pointing out to Sikkim as a “sensitive border state”, she seeks that “any attempt by any party or individual groups to spread communal disharmony” should not be allowed.
The final demand seeks that Old Laws of Sikkim “not be allowed to be diluted or annulled or rescinded illegally any further by any political party in power or coming into power”.
