GANGTOK, 04 Oct: The three-day ‘Orientation cum Training Programme’ for junior advocates who have been practicing law for 2 years or less, started here today at the High Court of Sikkim today. The programme is being organized by the Sikkim State Legal Services in co-ordination with the Sikkim Judicial Academy.
The inaugural function was attended by the Acting Chief Justice, Narendra Kumar Jain, Former Chief Justice, Pius. C Kuriakose and the judge of the Sikkim High Court, SP Wangdi. Former judge of the High Court, AP Subba and the Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, were also present for the inaugural function of the training.
While delivering his inaugural speech, the Acting Chief Justice, NK Jain said, “The junior advocates although experienced and practicing law for some time, still have doubts to be cleared, etiquettes and ethics to be learned and queries to be made”.
Justice SP Wangdi urged all the junior advocates to take advantage of this training programme, which was organized to facilitate them with basic knowledge on practicing, drafting and code of ethics and professionalism, etc. He added that the concept of Judicial Academy was to train lawyers, prosecution and judicial officers as per the need of the present situation.
Chief Justice PC Kuriakose, who demitted office on 01 October, was also felicitated by the Sikkim Judicial Academy for his contribution towards establishing the Judicial Academy.
