State Open Badminton Championship 2013 concludes

GANGTOK, 15 Sept: The 25th edition of Sikkim State Open Badminton Championship 2013 concluded today here at Paljor Stadium indoor gymnasium hall. More than 250 players from different parts of the state had taken part in this three-day championship, which was organised by Badminton Association of Sikkim [BAS].
The valedictory function of the championship held today was chaired by Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, NK Pradhan as the chief guest. He was also accompanied by UDHD Minister, DB Thapa, who is also the BAS patron, and BAS president, C Zangpo.
In his address, Mr Zangpo informed that the selected players from this state open will be representing the state in the upcoming North-East Zonal scheduled to be held in Arunachal Pradesh. He added that the shortlisted players will be undergoing a rigorous training camp. He encouraged the players to build up their stamina and endurance to give a better fight to their opponents.
“Participation is important but a competitive spirit is equally important,” said Mr. Zangpo. He added that the BAS will give its best to players and further encouraged the players to work together with the association to improve the standard of badminton in the state.
In men’s singles final, Amon Rai defeated Roshan Rai, while Prasanna Pradhan beat Kritika Bhujel in women’s singles.
In men’s doubles, Ranjit Rajbanshi and Rewas Rai beat S Kunzang Sherpa and Anish Chettri while in women’s doubles Sadhna Rai and Sonam Palmu defeated Ruchika Bhujel and Tamchey Doma Sherpa.
In mixed doubles, Prasanna Pradhan and Ravi Rai defeated Diwakar Rai and C Lhamu.
In veterans 42 plus singles, Anand Bisht defeated PH Reddy, while DB Thapa and Anand Bisht defeated Diwakar Rai and Pradip Rai in veterans 42 plus doubles.
Robin Rai defeated KJ Paljor in veterans 55 plus singles, while in veterans 55 plus doubles, KJ Paljor and CS Rai beat SB Gurung and Norbu Bhutia.
