Sikkim Commission for Backward Classes convenes interactive meet

Gangtok, 17 Sept [IPR]: An interactive meeting of Sikkim Commission for Backward Classes (SCBC) with executive members of different associations of MBC and OBC communities of the State and officers of the Welfare Division of Social Justice Empowerment & Welfare Department dealing with MBC & OBC matters was held at alocal hotel here in the capital today. TN Sharma, the SCBC chairperson, was present as chief guest.
Invitees and the members and representatives of the various backward classes and communities of Sikkim placed their ideas, suggestions and grievances to the panel.
Mr. Sharma welcomed the ideas and suggestions and assured to look into the grievances positively while trying to find solutions of various problems that these communities are facing.
In his short address, the SCBC Chairman highlighted that Sikkim was a multiethnic, multicultural, multilingual and multi-religious composite society living in peaceful coexistence with mutual respect. “All of us have come to this juncture of having experienced similar kinds of vicissitudes of our past and therefore deriving a common historical legacy,” he said.
The Chamling Government has given equal protection to all the ethnic groups, castes and communities of Sikkim, without any discrimination and kept under one umbrella making the state of Sikkim very tranquil and exemplary in the nation, he added.
He also expressed his happiness over having participated in the interactive secession and hoped that in future too more programmes where representatives and members of various communities will participate in bigger numbers and try and find solutions for their grievances.
Earlier Principal Secretary SJEWD GP Upadhyaya presented the welcome note.
