Chungthang gets 24 REDRH homes on Earthquake anniv

GANGTOK, 19 Sept: The worst affected by the 18 September 2011 earthquake, Chungthang in North Sikkim received 24 new houses on Wednesday, the second anniversary of the earthquake. The  homes were constructed under the Reconstruction of Earthquake Damaged Rural Houses [REDRH] scheme.
The houses were inaugurated as part of mass inauguration of REDRH houses throughout Sikkim to mark the passing of two years since the devastating earthquake of 18 September and as a mark of respect to its victims.
Along with the 24 REDRH houses 61 completed CMRHM houses too, were inaugurated in the Chungthang sub-division on the same day, informs a press release.
Upadhakshya (North) Nim Tshering Lepcha led the inauguration drive in Lachen in the presence of SDM Chungthang, Sonam T. Tashi. Similarly, Panchayat President of Chungthang GPU, Lhendup Lepcha and GVA Chungthang, K.T. Bhutia did the honours in Chungthang, Bop and Choten; while Chungthang ADC (Development), Zilla Panchayat member Chungchung Lepcha and GVK Assistant Engineer inaugurated completed REDRH and CMRHM houses at Ship Gyer, Theng and Lachung respectively.
Present on the occasion were concerned Pipons and Panchayats, Sub-Divisional officials, beneficiaries and general public. During the course of the day, the various chief-guests expressed deep gratitude to the State Government towards successful implementation of REDRH and CMRHM schemes. In addition, they conveyed satisfaction over the quality of construction work and interacted extensively with the beneficiaries and public in general.
They highlighted various development programmes of the State Government aimed at securing welfare of the people and also urged the public to be responsible in availing of the benefits provided to them. They furthermore appreciated the efforts put in by the beneficiaries and concerned support staff towards successful completion of the houses.
