Former Legislators’ felicitates former CMs on Sikkim Ratna honour

GANGTOK, 30 May: Former Legislators’ Federation of Sikkim [FLFS] today felicitated former Chief Ministers BB Gooroong and Sanchaman Limboo, on their being conferred with the Sikkim Ratna awards during the State Day celebrations. The felicitation was held at the MLA Hostel here with the Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly [SLA], KT Gyaltsen, present as the chief guest.
The programme started with a welcome address by FLFS president, SK Pradhan, who also presented a brief bio-data of Mr. Gooroong and Mr. Limboo. Mr Limboo thanked FLFS for organizing “such a beautiful programme” and felicitating them. “The respect which you have given us will be remembered till the end of our lives,” he said.
He further pointed out that many of their co-members have passed on. “We should not forget to pray to the almighty to bless them and their families for the great contributions made by them to the state,” he said. He also mentioned that the demand placed by the former Legislators’ will be declared within this budget session.
Mr Gooroong, in his address, shared some experiences of his political career. “Be positive, think positive and act positive and nobody can stop you from reaching the peak,” said the former CM, adding that former MLAs have made substantial contributions to the state. He also suggested that all the MLAs should meet more often to exchange thoughts and ideas.
The Speaker, who is also a patron of the FLFS, in his address, said that today’s programme though small, was meaningful. “It is a historic day as we have gathered here to felicitate two important senior and successful politicians,” he hihlighted.
Adding that “we are ruled by the system of tradition”, he informed that efforts are underway to collect photographs of all MPs and MLAs who have ever been elected in Sikkim [many of whom are now no more]. “We will conduct prayer sessions every year, so that it will remain as a tradition forever,” he added.
