Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samiti to hold screening camps across the state

GANGTOK, 03 May: Sikkim Viklang Sahaayata Samiti [SVSS], with the support of Smile Train of India and doctors of GG Medical Institute and Saraswat Hospital, is all set to organise a screening camp for cleft lip, palate and burnt contractures of post operative and pre-operation in the state.
A total of three camps covering all four districts have been planned and the first camp is scheduled on 08 May at the Indoor Gymnasium Hall, Paljor stadium. Patients with problems of cleft lip, palate or post-operative follow up and pre-operative check up of East and North District are said to attend the camp for the necessary checkup.
Addressing the media, President SVSS, Droupadi Ghimiray informed that the inaugural session of the camp, scheduled for 08 May, will have Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh as the chief guest. Likewise, similar camps will be held on 10 May at Community Hall, Namchi in South Sikkim followed by the third camp on 12 May at Community Hall, Gyalshing in West Sikkim.
She detailed that SVSS has been working for the differently-abled in the state for the past 12 years and has been continuously rendering self-less service to the needy in the state. Since 2008, SVSS has also been serving individuals with cleft lips and palate and burnt contractures patients with the support of Smile Train and doctors from GG Medical Institute and Saraswat Hospital, Agra.
Adding more, she stated that so far more than 300 patients with cleft lip, palate have been facilitated with free operation and treatment whereas about 16 burnt cases have been treated. Eight of the burnt cases treated out of the 16 patients were sponsored by the State Health Department whereas the remaining were supported by NHPC Teesta by way of funding the medicine charges applicable. GG Medical Institute and Saraswat Hospitals, Agra so far have been kind enough in providing all the camps, operation and treatment free of cost to the needy added, Ms. Ghimiray. The three camps being held in the state this year are also free of cost.
Likewise, she mentioned that all the district authorities of all the districts have been kind enough to support the camps and the NGOs, organisations, associations across the state working in different levels have also been supporting the camp by disseminating information of the camp to the needy.
