NAMCHI, 23 Jan: One person was killed and the driver seriously injured in a truck mishap last night here at Mickhola, a few kilometers from Namchi. The accident occurred at around 9 PM when a truck [SK/03/3399] belonging to one Arjun Jaswal of Namchi was on its way back to Namchi from Siliguri carrying a load of bricks. The truck fell off the road and plunged down around 1,000 ft.
One Kiran Pradhan of Ghurpisey, Pakhrin who had taken a lift in the truck from Kitam Bazaar died on the spot while the driver, Santosh Sherpa, suffered head injuries and is under medical supervision at Namchi Hospital.
The Police have registered a case against the driver at Namchi PS and investigation is underway to establish the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was released to the family after autopsy.
