GANGTOK, 02 Nov: An ad-hoc committee of the Volleyball Association of Sikkim has been formed to revive volleyball in the state and to encourage youths towards the sport; the ad hoc committee will also attempt to promote talented players of the game in Sikkim.
The committee has Sports Minister, NK Pradhan as the patron, GM Gurung as president, Topden Bhutia and Palden Bhutia as vice-presidents, NK Chettri as general secretary, Dilip Chettri as joint secretary, Tilak Mukhia as publicity secretary and Chewang Bhutia as treasurer.
A press release of the association mentions that the main reason behind the move to promote volleyball in the state was to provide exposure to talented players in the higher levels and to prepare and enable the state team to participate in the national and regional level tournaments.
The committee has already commenced the process to acquire affiliation with Vollyball Federation of India, Sikkim Olympic Association and also to be registered with the Law Department, Government of Sikkim.
It was informed that the district level committees will also be formed in coming days.
