New season of auctions begins at Spices Board Auction Centre

5.62 MT OF LARGE CARDAMOM PUT TO AUCTION; BEST QUALITY FETCHES Rs. 871/KG BIDGANGTOK, 16 Nov: Large cardamom auction in Sikkim began its second year with a new season beginning today at the Spices Board Auction Centre at Rangpo.
 The new season [2011-12] was inaugurated by Horticulture Department Joint Director [Horticulture Marketing], HC Pradhan, and was participated by large cardamom growers from all four districts and dealers from Sikkim and Siliguri, a Spices Board press release informs.
A total of 5.62 MT of large cardamom was put to auction out of which 421 kgs was sold and rest withdrawn by the growers in the hope of fetching better prices in the next auction scheduled for 30 November.
The highest price realized in the auction was Rs. 871 per kg and the lowest was Rs. 725. Also at this auction, 3.75 MT of large cardamom grown in Nagaland was put for auction. The highest bid for Nagaland cardamom was Rs. 842 per kg and the lowest Rs. 750, the release informs.
The inaugural function was also addressed by V. Jayaram, DD (Dev), Spices Board, Dr. Utpal Gupta, DD (Res), ICRI, PP Khanel, AD (Mktg), PC Roy, Sr. Zonal Manager, NERAMAC Ltd., Dr. Ravi Gupta, Sr. Scientist, Central Agriculture University, Mr. Johncy, AD (Dev), Mr. Limboo, president of Heegaon MPCS and Ashoke Jain, a Large Cardamom Dealer.
