Another NSH team for national tourney

NAMCHI, 31 Oct: A team of 17 players of Namchi Sport Hostel today left for the Under-14 Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament 2011 scheduled to be held at Delhi from 5 November 2011. All 17 players are from Namchi Sports Hostel who will represent Sikkim in this tourney. The  team is being led by coach Suren Chettri and Manager Jigmee Bhutia.
Before leaving for Delhi the team interacted with media persons here at Namchi today where they expressed their hope of a better performance in this tournament. Joint Director Sports and Youth Affairs(S/W), Kamal Chettri who also
interacted with the players before they left said that NSH boys had recorded improved performances in the past and this time too they would perform their best, he added.
He further said that Namchi Sports Hostel was started with the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling where the football talents had been selected from all over the state under 'Search for More Bhaichung Scheme' way back in 1998 with the aim to open avenues for the hidden talents predominantly from the remote rural areas of the State. He also cited that the success stories of the scheme of the government was an eye opener for the sports administrator and program planner while setting a priority sector of development.
In this regard it was stated that the products of the NSH are today dominant in the football scenario of the country, and cited the name of a few players as Ong Tshering Lepcha who captained theIndia U-19, Sanju Pradhan and Nirmal Chettri who are integral part of the Golden brigade- East Bengal FC, Michael Lepcha who represented India school football team in ASFC in Japan; Ashish Chettri who represented India in school football team in Iran and Bikash Jairu, Robin gurung, Santu Subba, Sanjay Chettri, Nim Tshering Lepcha and Sagar Rai who are vibrant players donning the colors of various premier clubs in the country.
He further said that the journey of NSH had so far been a glorious one with the first batch of its cadets travelling as far as South Korea and subsequently many boys like Ashish Chettri, Utam Rai, Bibek bhutia and Subham Basnet were part of
the National squad that extensively toured Europe, America and Asian countries which they would otherwise not have accomplished. “A dozen of our boys were picked by Air Force School on sheer talent on the basis of their performances” he added.
He also said that some players who at present were playing for renowned national football clubs were earning good money ranging from Rs. 35 to Rs. 40 lakhs annually which would further be enhanced by the government schemes of capacity building in sport sector having become successful.
