Central Bank of India provides life insurance policies for underprivileged children at Namchi

MRS. CHAMLING MATCHES THE OFFER, DOUBLING THE POLICY VALUENAMCHI, 28 Nov: A unique and thoughtful idea in the form of a special programme to extend Life Insurance coverage for underprivileged children was held here at Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Institute for the Handicapped (JNMIH) at Boomtar, Namchi. The programme was organized by Central Bank of India (CBI) Regional Office, Siliguri, along with Gangtok and Namchi branch.
The programme was specially conducted for the students of JNMIH and Mayal Lyang Mission Society [Namchi] which houses orphans, mostly girls. With Tika Maya Chamling as chief guest, the programme was also attended by SP [District Prison, Boomtar], KL Tenzin, DC and SP South, Chairman Namchi Municipal Council, officials of CBI branch from Siliguri, Gangtok and Namchi, members of JNMIH, teachers and students of JNMIH and Mayal Lyang Mission Society.
The programme started with the song of Navchetna by the students of JNMIH followed by welcome address by Anjan Biswas of CBI Ranipool who informed about the motive and reason behind organizing this programme. The AGM, Gangtok, in his brief address, informed that the programme was being organized to mark the completion of the centenary year celebrations of Central Bank of India and also keeping in mind Children’s Day, with the aim to provide better facilities for these children.
He informed that as a part of their centenary celebration and also as a gesture of love, security and concern for the children and their future, the CBI on their part have contributed by providing Life Insurance Policy for them.
The chief guest of the day, Mrs. Chamling in her address thanked CBI and others for organizing such a thoughtful programme, and expressed her gratitude towards the bank and other interested persons who have come forth in the upliftment of such physically challenged children.
She added that the life insurance policy for each child of JNMIH by Central Bank of India is a praiseworthy task and informed that supporting such work and as a gesture of love she has also added to the amount of each child’s LIC policy. She also assured of all possible help in the future and told the children to approach her in case of any help they need like medical treatment and others.
The Central Bank of India apart from providing LIC policy to the children also provided JNMIH with an aqua-guard water filter, two Sintex tanks, warm clothes and blankets for the children and staff and also for the children of Mayal Layang Mission Society.
Mrs Chamling had also brought warm clothes for the staff and children along with other additional help and support, the savings passbook of the children which was opened by CBI in the names of the students was also handed over to the principal of JNMIH. A total of 41 passbooks were handed over.
The amount of LIC policy for each child by CBI is Rs 1532 towards which Mrs Chamling contributed the same amount for each child’s policy thus doubling it. The policy is for five years. During the programme, Mrs Chamling also announced similar LIC policy for 10 students of Mayal Layang Mission Society.
The children also presented cultural items during the programme.
