8 top ranking players to represent Sikkim at national meet

16TH STATE TT CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDE GANGTOK, 07 Nov: Nima Tenzing Lepcha of Soyam Junior High School in boy’s and Tenzing Doma Sherpa of Bahai School, Tadong, in girl’s emerged has as the Best Player in the Cadet U-12 category of the 16th State Open Table Tennis Championship, which concluded here at Paljor Stadium indoor gymnasium hall today.
Likewise, Prabha Limboo of Modern SS in girl’s and Vivek Rai of Sri Satya Sai School in boy’s categories respectively were adjudged as the Players of the Championship.
The closing cermony of the four-day long championship was held today, which was chaired by the Power Minister, SG Lepcha, as the chief guest. The championship was organized by the Sikkim Table Tennis Association [STTA].
In his valedictory address, the Power Minister congratulated the STTA for encouraging the local players towards sports and providing them with a proper platform by organising such championships. He further encouraged the association to continue with its efforts in developing and nurturing local talents.
He encouraged the players to continue with their efforts with discipline and dedication in order to reach the highest levels.
In his presidential address, the STTA president, CK Basnet, informed that more than 400 players from across the state had taken part in 20 different events in the championship.
He further informed that the top 8 ranking players in different categories of the championship would represent the state in their respective categories at the national championships.
He mentioned that the association has been conducting the championship every year and has also been sending state teams to the national championships each year.
The winners of the championship in different events were Ayush Agarwal [cadet boy’s single], Priya Gurung [cadet girl’s single], Kamal Subba [junior boy’s singles], Chumpila Bhutia [junior girl’s single], Ashish Tamang and Sameer Rai [junior boy’s doubles], Priya Gurung and Chumpila Bhutia [junior girl’s doubles], Silvanas Sherpa and Karun Chettri [men’s doubles], Mandira Gurung and Lekee Bhutia [women’s doubles, Silvanas Sherpa [invitational men’s single], Silvanas and Karun [open men’s doubles], BM Subba [veteran women’s single], Mandira Gurung [employees women’s single], CS Subba [veteran men’s single], David D Lepcha [employees men’s single], CS Subba and DK Tamang [veteran men’s doubles] and Prabha Limboo [women’s singles].
The chief guest and other guests handed out the medals, certificates and trophies to the winners.
