SLYA resolves to coordinate relief and rehabilitation efforts

GANGTOK, 29 Sept: A meeting of the Central Executive Body of the Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Ong Shejum [Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association] was convened on Wednesday at its headquarters under the chairmanship of SLYA president, Ongden Tshering Lepcha, a press release informs.
The meeting expressed deep sorrow on the damage caused by the 18 September earthquake and extended its condolences to the affected people, informs the release issued by SLYA general secretary, Nim Tshering Lepcha.
The meeting also instructed all the district and village level branches to take detailed account of the situation of the affected places and submit their findings to the central executive body to initiate follow up steps.
“The meeting appreciated the steps taken by the state government, army authorities, ITBP, STF, Paramilitary personnel, central government, different governmental and non-governmental organizations and individuals in reaching essential commodities and helping the affected people all across state in this time of need,” the release puts on record.
The meeting also resolved to coordinate with NGOs, both from within and outside the State, to undertake restoration works in the more severely affected areas of Sakyong and Pentong in Dzongu as soon as possible.
The release further informs that a team of CEC members led by the president and accompanied by the North District branch office-bearer toured the affected places of North especially Dzongu from 24-27 Sept, reaching relief and other essential supplies.
It was also informed that meanwhile, the reliefs collected by the vice-president, Passang Dorjee Lepcha from various NGOs and individuals are ready to be sent to the affected areas.
A team headed by the president and vice-president with other executive members are scheduled to visit the North Sikkim on 02 Oct to offer voluntary service. The team will be taking the relief materials, a team of doctors and engineers, the release informs.
