Rs. 2.32 crore disbursed to cover 2,824 damaged houses

PHASE-II RELIEF HANDED OVER FOR EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE TO HOUSES IN GANGTOK MUNICIPAL CORPORATION
GANGTOK, 11 Oct: A total of Rs 2.32 crores in relief for house damages caused by the 18 September earthquake was disbursed, covering 2824 houses in the 15 wards of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation [GMC] here at GMC complex today.
This was the second phase disbursement after tokens of relief in first phase were provided to affected people by the Chief Minister at Chintan Bhawan *. In the first phase, relief totalling Rs 1.20 crore was disbursed to cover 410 houses in East District, of which, 110 were under the GMC.
Cheques were handed over to affected people of different wards by their respective ward councilors today. The victims were identified by the respective charge officers and councilors.
However, it was informed that persons having objections over how the damages to their houses have been categorised were kept pending and will be re-verified by the charge officer and if required upgraded.
It was also informed that in case of new or left out claims of damages due to the earthquake are required, the affected people need to apply to the administration by 15 October.
As per, the phase II assessment records, Development Area reported damage to 62 houses, 199 houses in Upper Sichey, 73 in Deorali, 334 houses in Burtuk, 20 in Upper MG Marg, 42 in Tibet Road, 40 in Lower MG Marg, 198 in Daragaon, 520 in Tadong, 281 in Lower Sichey, 49 in DPH, 214 in Shyari-Tathangchen, 135 in Arithang, 294 in Ranipool and 363 in Chandmari.
It also records that 10 pucca houses and 2 kutcha houses were “fully damaged” in different wards in GMC, in which 6 pucca houses were in Upper Sichey, the highest. Likewise, 52 pucca and 203 kutcha houses sustained severe damage, of which Chandmari recorded severe damage to 175 kutcha houses.
606 pucca and 376 kutcha houses sustained major damages and 1119 pucca and 456 kutcha houses sustained minor damaged in the GMC.
