Enumerators and supervisors trained on SECC 2011

NAMCHI, 23 Oct: Daylong trainings were organized at Temi BAC on 20 and 21 October for enumerators and supervisors of Temi and Yangang BACs respectively and at Ravangla BAC [for enumerators and supervisors there] on 22 Oct. The training prepared the personnel assigned to undertake the Socio-economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 which is being carried out by the Government of India to generate household level information on social and economic indicators across the country.

Field Facilitator of Temi BAC, Roshan Kaushik, the master trainer for SECC 2011, trained the participants on general guidelines in filling the questionnaire, skills such as rapport building, map updation, data validation etc.
Another resource person from the Census Operation, Gangtok, BK Thapa, detailed how to update Abridged House-List (AHL).
The Training was attended by BDO cum Charge Officer of Temi and Yangang, SK Pradhan and Mahesh Sharma along with PIs, SI, APO, RDAs, GRS, LDCs and other BAC staffs being appointed as Supervisors and Enumerators.
Each enumerator is entrusted to undertake census in a maximum of 4 Enumeration Blocks (EB) while a supervisor shall look after one supervisory block consisting of 6 EBs. The census will have three important outcomes, firstly, it will rank households based on their socioeconomic status so that state/ UT governments can objectively prepare a list of families living below the poverty line in rural and urban areas. Secondly, it will make available authentic information on the caste-wise breakup of population and thirdly, it will provide the socioeconomic profile of various castes.
In Sikkim, the SECC 2011 is scheduled to begin on 02 November and expected to be completed within 40 days.
