60 piglets rehabilitated from Chungthang to Karfectar

GANGTOK, 24 Oct: Sixty weaned (56 days old) Hampshire piglets have been transferred and rehabilitated at the Livestock Farm, Karfectar, from earthquake damaged Bop piggery, Chungthang, North Sikkim, informs a press release issued by Veterinary Officer, Livestock Farm, Karfectar, Dr Phurba Lepcha.
The Bop piggery officials under sub-divisional veterinary hospital Chungthang could not keep the piglets as the piggery was badly damaged by the 18 Sept earthquake. The weaned piglets were shifted as soon as the road was cleared for traffic, the release informs.
At the Livestock Farm, Karfectar, farm officials had to make special and urgent arrangements to accommodate 100 piglets, as the two piggery sheds at the Farm has only 12 pens (rooms). To add to this, most of the pens at the Farm have their own parent stocks of Large White Yorkshire along with their piglets, the release adds.
