Trinley Thaye Dorje condoles earthquake deaths, leads aspiration prayers for Sikkim

GANGTOK, 21 Sept: Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje has expressed sorrow over the massive loss of human lives in Sikkim in the Sunday earthquake, informs a press release issued by his Public Relations Officer.
Today, Trinley Thaye Dorje led a special “aspiration prayer” session at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi to express solidarity with the earthquake victims. He was joined by senior monks, nuns and a large gathering of Tibetan devotees.
Making Aspiration prayers, for Buddhists, is one of the most important practices, the release explains.
Speaking at the prayer service Trinley Thaye Dorje said, “Aspiration prayers support us both in life and for our future rebirth... When tragedy strikes, we are stunned and fail to realise the mental support that we can provide to the affected. So, the practice of aspirations is there to benefit others temporarily and beyond this life span as well. Aspirations also help those who have passed away to have a peaceful and smooth transition into the next life and give freedom for whichever way they wish to be reborn. The end result of aspiration practice is that of peace and courage.”
Mani recitations and dedication prayers were also made for the deceased and the survivors. The event concluded with the lighting of butter lamps and flower offerings in the memory of the deceased and all chanted in unison for a new lease of joy for the survivors, the release informs.
