GANGTOK, 26 Sept: A Sikkim University relief and recce team which entered Dzongu yesterday has conveyed word that the villages of Mangzing, Kassel and Katong in Upper Dzongu were cut-off from all sides due to fresh landslides triggered the continuous rain of the past few days.
There are around 110 villagers camped here. The SU team informs that this cluster of 110 people are in urgent need of: Food, profile mats, kerosene, cooking oil and medication for cough, cold, skin and eye infections, headache and fever.
The group informs that an air drop was held for Mangzing yesterday but inclement weather kept helicopters off the skies today.
The villages of Bring and Katam are still cut off as the bridges to them have been washed away. The requirements mentioned, the team reiterates, should be treated as urgent and priority as the team in the field only has access to VHAS.
