This was the situation in Sunday. Sikkim woke up overcast on Monday and the rain continues. Helicopter sorties are stranded again.
GANGTOK, 25 Sept: After two days spent stranded at helipads, helicopter sorties reaching aid and evacuation to earthquake affected areas cut off from road communication began this morning.
A senior Army official informed today that nine army helicopters flew many sorties, dropping rations and reaching people to affected areas and evacuating stranded people from different parts of North Sikkim today.
He informed that the helicopters have dropped a four-member group of expert mountaineers and 300 kgs of rations and 2 tents at Chungthang, 400 kgs of ration and four civilians at Lachen and 800 kgs of ration and seven civilians and 2 radio communication equipment with 2 technicians at Lachung from Gangtok. Supplies were also airlifted to Shipgyer, Leek, Hee Rabong and Barfok villages in Dzongu.
Army helicopters also dropped 400 kgs of ration at Sakyong, 1,450 kgs of ration at Pentong and 1,050 kgs of ration and 8 water supply pipes at Singhik.
The Army also air-lifted nine civilians from Chaten and 15, including 2 children, from Lachung to Gangtok today.
Lachen-Mangan MLA, TW Lepcha and Advisor to the CM, Hissey Lachungpa, also landed at Lachung for inspection and to meet with the people there.
Likewise, 65 civilians and 3 ITBP personnel were airlifted from Chungthang to Mangan and 35 people, including technicians and workers, to Chungthang from Mangan.
Diesel and Kerosene supplies were also reached to Chaten from Chungthang and Lachung.
It was informed that on the state’s request, the Army has also released 3,000 liters of kerosene to Chungthang and 2,000 liters of kerosene to Lachung.
Meanwhile at Manul GPU near Mangan, a team of Development Agencies Coordination Action (DACA), in association with other agencies (DC, EFICOR, EHA, NEICORD, Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association) volunteers reached ration, buckets, poly tents, water bottles to all the households of Manul, Ramom and Singchit.
The team also visits affected areas of Naga. Approximately 41 houses have been damaged in Manul GPU, Panchayat, Lemu Lepcha informed today.
Today a meeting was also held at the North District Hospital conference hall and decision taken to organize Kangyur prayers at Mangan Senior Secodary School ground from 01 to 06 Oct.
