NDRF details its role and delivery in affected areas

GANGTOK, 28 Sept: A total of 400 personnel of the Natural Disaster Response Force [NDRF] were airlifted from Greater Noida and Kolkata and had reached Bagdogra by early morning of 19 Sept, informs a press release.
Five teams of NDRF reached Gangtok by the same evening and were further deployed in North Sikkim i.e. Mangan on 20 and 21 Sept.  Two teams of NDRF were also deployed in Chungthang and Lachung area while one team is at Gangtok to carry out any rescue operation in the city area. One team is kept at Siliguri as reserve.
NDRF personnel were directed to search out and reach remote hamlets of Mangan and Chungthang areas to assess damage to houses, requirement of food, medicines, tents and also to locate and search for dead bodies and live victims in those areas, the release informs.
NDRF has also been tasked to organise Medical Camps and extend assistance in loading and distribution of relief materials at Mangan Helipad. For execution of the given tasks, NDRF has divided rescuers in small teams of 15 to 20 personnel and with the help of local guides reached Breng, Saffo, Shipgyer, Bey, Lingzya, Manul, Thang, Rammam, Panan, Toong and Barakh, the release adds. 
To ensure proper search, NDRF teams remained in these areas for three days and provided valuable information about damage to houses and requirement of tents, food and medicines which helped the district administration at Mangan plan distribution of relief material in an organised manner, the release further informs.
During the search, NDRF team could extricate one dead body of a lady, one dead body of Subrata Ranjan Nath, aged 68 years R/o West bengal from village Shipyer, two dead bodies of Akhil Roy, age 45 years R/o New Bugaigaon, Assam and Tapan Biswas, age 35 years R/o West Bengal from Moonlight school Chungthang.
The team at Gangtok retrieved the dead body of 27-year-old Ramakanta Singh, from Dzongu House at Baluakhani.
The release further mentions that NDRF has been holding medical camps since 21 Sept at Manul and Mangan and has treated 721 patients along with supplying them free medicines. NDRF also provided 200 tents to DM Mangan on 22 Sept for further distribution to earthquake victims.
On 27 Sept NDRF rescuers along with local guides helped stranded villagers of Toong area to reach Mangan safely. NDRF is also helping in loading and unloading relief materials at Mangan Helipad.
The Governor of Sikkim visited NDRF Medical Camp at Mangan and appreciated the efforts of NDRF, the release adds.
