GANGTOK, 21 Sept: A condolence meeting was convened yesterday by the Bar Association of Sikkim, State Legal Services Authority and the Judicial Officers from the District Judiciary presided over by the Acting Chief Justice, Sikkim High Court, Justice SP Wangdi, in the Bar Room of the District Court. The meeting was also attended by the Registrar General, High Court, SE Lepcha, informs a press release.
The Chief Justice appealed to the legal fraternity, including the Panel Advocates and members of the Bar, to work in coordination with the State authorities and the SSLSA in ensuring relief measures and legal services to earthquake victims along with the guidelines formulated by NALSA under the Legal Services Authority Act 1987.
The High Court has constituted a Disaster Management Committee which will work in coordination with SSLSA, State Disaster management Cell, District Legal Services Authority and Taluk Legal Services Committee in rendering assistance to the victims, adds the release.
Seeking to provide legal assistance to the victims of the disaster in ensuring relief measures that may be sanctioned by the State Authorities, the members of the Bar informed about the creation of the team of advocates who will soon tour North and South Districts on a similar exercise.
The meeting also observed a two-minute silence in the memory of those who lost their lives in the disaster, the release informs.
