STATE-LEVEL TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATED AT CHINTAN BHAWAN
GANGTOK, 05 Sept [IPR]: The state-level Teacher’s Day function, organised by the Human Resource Development Department, was hosted here at Chintan Bhawan today with Chief Minister Pawan Chamling as the chief guest.
The highlight of today’s programme was the presentation of State Awards to teachers in recognition of their dedication and hard work.
The recipients of the State Award, which carries Rs. 1 lakh in cash [announced by the CM last year] and a citation, are: KB Subba, primary school language teacher at Mukrung Secondary School and PD Rai, Headmaster, Rumbuk Junior High School from the West district; Sonam Tshering Lepcha, Headmaster, Malling Primary School, and Tenzong Lepcha, primary school teacher at Labi-Rangdam Primary School from North district; PL Sharma, Headmaster, Rong Secondary School and Suk Tshering, primary school teacher, Sripadam JHS from South district; and Ranjana Pradhan, Graduate Teacher, Deorali Girls Senior Secondary School and Pemba Tshering Bhutia, primary school teacher, Sonamati Memorial Secondary School from East Sikkim.
Commendation awards were also conferred today to Leda Lepcha [Taryak Primary School], SW Sebastin,Headmaster, Tingvong Secondary School and RA Pandit, Graduate Teacher [Maths] at Lachung Secondary School from North district; Tshering Doma Bhutia of Temi JHS, Janga Bahadur Thapa, Burul JHS and Nirulata Rumba, primary teacher, Namchi New Secondary School from South; Radhay Lal, GT Maths, Timburbong SS, NS Chettri, PGT, Tashiding Sr. Sec. School, PT Sherpa, HM Bareng Primary School and Chatra Singh Chettri, primary school teacher, Khecheopalri SS from West Sikkim; and Deo Kr Pradhan, Pry Teacher, Rhenock Sr. Sec School, Pema Chaki Sherpa, G.T Lingtam Sec. School, Lakpa Tsh. Lepcha, H.M. Barbing Pry School and Tshering Dorjee Bhutia, Pry Teacher, Pabyuik Sec School from East Sikkim.
The best performing school awards from the Government and private sector were bagged by Melli Gumpa Secondary School [South Sikkim] and Kyi-de-Khang Secondary School [Gangtok], respectively.
Conveying his greetings to the teachers on the occasion, the Chief Minister stressed that teachers should play the roles of guides and philosophers to their student and shape their futures well.
The world, he said, needs good people and ideal citizens and teachers could help groom students under their care for these roles provided they approached their responsibilities with full commitment, hard work and sincerity.
“Teachers are entrusted with huge responsibilities of creating ideal citizens in order to build up a healthy society,” he pointed out.
He also called upon the teachers to provide value-based education so that students could become strong assets of the society.
“If our people are not empowered and capable, the State cannot prosper,” he said, adding that the teachers should be responsible in providing quality education to the students so that the immense potential of the children was harnessed well to power the State building process in later years.
Delving on developments which have taken place in the education sector, the Chief Minister mentioned that the improvements have taken place through the contributions made by the teachers in classrooms, with the Government playing the role of facilitator as a policy-maker.
It was important for teachers to be responsible and accountable, he stressed, as he called upon teachers to work concertedly for the betterment of society and solicited their contribution and support to make Sikkim addiction-free.
While reiterating that demands sanctioned during his recent village-to-village tour, the Chief Minister informed that work on playgrounds, toilet facilities, auditorium halls and school buildings sanctioned on the spot during the tour will commence from this month onwards.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Director, Technical Education.
