SSSBS wants people to insist that Public Order Bill be passed

GANGTOK, 25 Aug: Sikkim Sachet Swarojgar Berojgar Sangathan [SSSBS] has appealed the people to advise the State Government to pass the Sikkim Prevention and Control of Disturbance of Public Order Bill, 2011 and not withdraw it as it plans to do on Friday. The Bill, SSSBS believes, will “restrict” anti-social activities in the State.
The organisation has further appealed the people not to support “vested interest” who “are trying to mislead the youth and general public and defame Sikkim”.
The organisation’s president, Karma Gyurmey Bhutia, general secretary, Dev Gurung, publicity secretary, Bhusan Tamang and members, Phurba Tshering Bhutia and Naresh Chettri made the appeal today.
They insisted that there was no provision in the Bill which was unconstitutional and it would safeguard the peace and tranquillity of the state and the Bill is totally in the favour of the people. They also mentioned that no fundamental rights were being violated by the Bill.
They alleged that some vested interest’s have misinterpreted the Bill and made its provisions sound sensational by highlighting incomplete provisions of the Bill.
The SSSBS has challenged that Nagrik Adhikar Suraksha Sangathan Sikkim to explain exactly which provisions of the Bill are unconstitutional.
They also registered a strong objection to referring to the Public Order Bill as the “Black Bill”.
The SSSBS general secretary alleged that the NASSS has been misguiding the people by claiming to be an NGO, using the name of Anna Hazare and by using the tricolour in its rally.
“As we found that the people have been misguided by the organisation and fear that more people could get misguided, were compelled to come out to present the right interpretation of the Bill to the people,” Mr Gurung said.
They further questioned why NASSS was trying to put obstacles in the passing such a “good Bill” and why they didn’t want peace in the State.
They mentioned that even if the Bill in withdrawn in Friday’s Assembly session, the organisation will appeal to the State Government to place and pass this Bill in the future “for the betterment of the Sikkimese people”.

  1. who is leading this organisation called SSSBS!! dont they know that the bill will infringe upon the fundamental rights of the citizens of the state!!and that such a bill if made into a law will definitly be challanged in the court of law and is shall surely be struck down and labelled as ultra vires to the Constitution of India. why are they trying to mislead the Govt. HE the Governor did the right thing by advising the govt to withdraw it...having be in charge of the home portfolio as a bureaucrate he must be knowing the pros and cons fully well!!!

  3. Hi Dear Sikkimese friends, I am pained at the news of earthquake today leading to few losses of life and properties. It was reported that the church at Mangan has collapsed. It reminds me a beautiful place on the earth, Sikkim.

I visited Sikkim doing hitch hiking from western part of India. I spent nearly 20 days in North Sikkim in Nov-Dec of 1991or92. I remember some friends there and wanted to know if they are still there and safe & sound. Mr. Basant Sharma and Mr. Ghattraja of Mangan School, Mangan, Assam Rifle Mangan and Chungthang. Two small kids Keshang and Aarti of a grocery family staying near Assam Rifle Lodge at Chungthang. Pema, a school teacher at Chungthang. Mr. Gurung who was handling Sikking Tourism hut at Lachung who kindly organized my stay during off season. A Bhutia family at Lachung where I used to eat and drink while I was there. Old man staying at Bichu, near Lachung. Police men who disembarked me at Mangan check post without the pass and courteously sending me back to Mangan. DM at Mangan who was staying at Chungthang who issued me a pass to go upto Yumthang. PA to DM, a Keralite with excellent fluency in speaking Sikkimese!!

If anyone comes across these people whom I have described above, please contact me at the following email address. I would like to refresh those contacts again.

Thanks and warm regards to all Sikkimese.
