I-DAY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT FOR THE CHOGYAL SIR TASHI NAMGYAL MEMORIAL CUP
GANGTOK, 09 Aug: Sikkim Police Football Club outplayed UKFC [Kurseong] in a contesting match today at the Independence Day Football Tournament for the Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal Memorial Cup played here at Paljor Stadium.Sikkim Police defeated UKFC 2-0 to enter the semi-final round of the tournament.
Both teams have played neck-to-neck and made constant attacks right since the start. Two good attempts by UKFC strikers bounced off the goalpost and the first half concluded goalless.
Again in the second half, some good attempts were made by UKFC players and again another shot hit the goalpost and the match seemed headed for a goalless draw.
But a goal by Pahal Man Rai in the 74th minute for Sikkim Police boosted the morale of his team and another goal by Engpohang Subba in the injury time confirmed the victory.
D’zongri Football Club will take on an I-League team, Langshing SC [Shillong], in the third quarter-final match on Wednesday.
