Rakdong Tintek convenes Gram Sabha

MANGAN, 28 Aug: The 42-Rakdong Tintek GPU held a Gram Sabha yesterday at the Gram Prashasan Kendra at Lower Rakdong in East Sikkim chaired by the Panchayat President, Ganden Lepcha
During the Sabha, ward Panchayat, BB Gurung, highlighted and tabled the different demands which were passed during the four-day Action Plan Development programme.
The demands include land development work, water source development at Rakdong and Tintek Khola, construction of CC footpath, provision of drinking water, up-gradation of schools, restoration of Dikchu-Lingdok road, promotion of animal husbandry in the area, and supply of sufficient medicines to the PHC etc. which were the demands from different wards of the GPU.
The Gram Sabha also focussed on the nutrition programme.
Jt. Director Nutrition Cell, JK Diyali, highlighted the importance of nutrition for children and delved on the effects of malnutrition. He also appealed to all the villagers to send all children up to the age of six years to the nearest ICDS centre where the children not only start learning but also get nutritious midday meals.
He further added that the 4kg nutritious supplementary food (Poushtik Ahar) to mothers will be provided monthly and 2.5 kg to the children from every ICDS Centre and urged everyone to avail this facility.
During the Sabha, the villagers also questioned the Power & Energy Department officials about the poor supply of electricity in the area especially in the villages of Sokpay and Raidang, which get electricity for barely 5 to 7 days in a month.
The Power Department official in turn explained that electricity consumption in the area was limited earlier and a new transformer will be installed to meet the increased demand. He also urged consumers to install new electronic meters.
During the Sabha, a Constituency Level Vigilance Monitoring Committee was also nominated comprising of two members, one male and female from each ward.
BDO Tenzing Dorjee Denzongpa, in turn, informed that demands tabled during the Sabha should aim for the development of the village and not promote personal interests.
He further informed the meeting of the recent Bill passed by the Assembly according 50% reservation for women in the Gram Panchayats and urged the new members of the Vigilance Monitoring Committee to work for the development of the village. He also appealed to the concerned officials of the line departments to work in the interest of the people and undertake proper implementation of the schemes.
The Sabha concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Field Facilitator, Prem Kaushik.
The Sabha was also attended by officials from line department, panchayat members of respective wards, heads of different schools, Anganwadi workers, representatives of Primary Health Centre, NGO representatives and the general public.
