Nepali Style Manual released to mark Bhasa Manyata Diwas

GANGTOK, 21 Aug: “Nepali has words which are not there in other language. It’s lively and rich and a language which can compete with any other language,” said CD Rai while speaking as chief guest at a function organised by Sikkim Akademi yesterday to mark Bhasa Manyata Diwas – the day celebrating the Constitutional recognition of Nepali language.
“Nepali Lekhan Shayli” [Nepali writing style manual], a book published jointly by Sikkim Akademi and the Central Institute of Indian Languages [CIIL], Mysore, was also released on the day.
The president Sikkim Akademi, GS Lama, while welcoming guests to the function, said, “The book will be very useful for research scholars, teachers, students and journalists and it will definite be of help in writing, editing, proof-reading and even preparation of scripts.”
Dr. B Mallikarjun, Reader & Researcher, Central Institute of Indian Languages, related how he thought of getting the manual done for Nepali language. He said, “The Manual is a significant step in the history of the Nepali language”.
“The book has been prepared in collaboration with the Sikkim Akademi, in order to reach it to the people without which the whole effort put would go waste,” he said.
Mr. Mallikarjun, who is also the executive editor of the book, was hopeful that the book will go in for a second edition soon.
Respected historian and editor, Sunchari, Dr. Kumar Pradhan, who is on the  editorial board of the book as executive editor as well, announced that any suggestions regarding the book would be welcomed by the editorial board consisting of 8 other members.
With the Director, CIIL, as Chief Editor, apart from Mr. Pradhan and Mr. Mallikarjun as executive editors, the book had, as members: Kabita Lama, Gokul Sinha, Gopal Prasad Dahal, Ghanshyam Nepal, Parsguram Poudyal, Pushkar Parajuli, Balaram Pandey and Sanu Lama. The publication also relied on the services of Khagen Sharma as member convenor and Gyanendra Subba, special assistance.
