GANGTOK, 04July: In the Annual Installation Ceremony held yesterday at Hotel Denzong Regency, Bina Sharma handed over the charge of president and management of Rotary Club of Gangtok South to a new team led by Sunila Verma, the new president for the year 2011-12, informs a press release.
Outgoing secretary and new president Sunila Verma, read out the report on various activities undertaken by the Club during the previous year. In her farewell remark Bina Sharma fondly recounted the various community projects taken up by the Club during her tenure, particularly the ‘Heart to Heart’ and ‘Gift of Life’ projects under which five children belonging to BPL families of Sikkim were sent for free and successful heart operation to specialist hospitals of Durgapur and Delhi, the release informs.
She thanked the Department of Health, Government of Sikkim and other organizations and individuals who had helped RC Gangtok South to make this project a success. She also highlighted the hard work put in by all members of the Club during the year as a result of which the Club had received six awards from the District Governor that included District Governor’s citation, Award for contributing to Japan Disaster Relief Fund, Award for contributing to Annual Programme Fund at the rate of US dollars 75 per head, Award for successfully completing the Four Way Test Speech Competition among the school children of Gangtok, the Best secretary in the Zone and the Second Best lady president in the District, the release mentions.
The new president Sunila Verma congratulated the outgoing team on their excellent work and sought cooperation from all members for completing the projects that have been chalked out for the current year.
She said, “After all, any organization reflects the sum total efforts of its members. Hence team work is the essence for the success of a Rotary Club”, the release adds.
Dr Yogesh Verma who will be the first ever Rotarian from Sikkim to hold the post of District Governor in the coming year 2012-13, was the guest of honour. Dr Bella Cintury, the chief guest for the function, appreciated that Rotarians of Sikkim were more active than those in other places of the North East Region as per her experience of working in the field of polio eradication and helping disabled persons in the NE region.
She urged the Rotarians of Sikkim to take more active part in the community service to the local people.
The function also saw musical interludes performed by Vernica and Ankit and a recitation of a poem by Priyanka Sharma.
